Built as a local-first MV3 extension, it keeps your data private while offering powerful AI tutoring capabilities. Instead of sending your data to a remote backend, Curio processes everything locally in your browser. It uses your chosen AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Gemini) to provide explanations, generate quizzes, and help you master the material one chapter at a time.
How to use Curio
- Upload a chapter — Provide your reading material (PDFs, text) and Curio will index it locally.
- Grounded chat — Ask questions about the text. Curio grounds its answers strictly in the uploaded material to prevent hallucinations.
- Step-by-step math — Need help with calculations? Curio renders LaTeX equations and solves them step-by-step, verifying math logic to flag incorrect assumptions.
- Puzzles & quizzes — Stay engaged with short puzzles every 5th turn to reinforce what you've learned.
- Graded assessment — Finish the chapter with a final graded assessment containing multiple-choice and short-answer questions, plus overall feedback and a score.
Built for privacy & safety
Curio is built with privacy and safety as its core tenets. Chapter content lives only in memory and is wiped the moment you close the window. Your API key is stored locally in chrome.storage.local and is never synced. Curio also includes an adult minors-consent gate and conditional second-pass safety reviews to ensure the content and interactions remain age-appropriate.
